College History

Bhairabi Degree College, Purunakatak under Harabhanga Block of Boudh District, was established in the year 1994. The college is so named as per the name of goddess Bhairabi, the presiding deity of Boudh District. It is the private college getting financial aid from the Govt. of Odisha. It is the only leading Degree College of this block to impart and provide academic skill and excellence for the deserving candidates and prove to be a landmark on the part of educational advancement.
The college has got the status of 12(B) of the UGC in the year and got recognition from Govt. from the session- 1996-97.
This college is affiliated to Sambalpur University, run with only Arts stream comprising 224 student’s strength with all Honours History-56, Political Science-56, Education-48, Odia-48 and English-16 seats by providing better education for the bright career of the students. In addition to academic syllabus, this institution has done better performance in the field of other activities like N.S.S, Red Cross, Sports, Plantation and all literary activities along with Self-defense programme for women.

The aim and object of the college is to provide quality education and to enhance skill development among the students as they require in present epoch of information and teaching and to afford every educational need to students by creating sound study atmosphere for the development of Mental, Physical and Spiritual level of the students.
It is a co- educational institute furnishing regular course for three years degree courses in Higher Education. The output of the students in their academic performance is very excellent. Students are well equipped not only in academic skill but also other extracurricular activities like song, dance, social services etc.
This college is located in the rural part of the area; still it takes prominent role in the field of providing quality education. It is located by the side of N.H-57, 30KM away from Boudh District towards BBSR. It is situated with natural surroundings with top plantation and green valley at the back side of the college.
Not only the students of Harbhanga block, but also the students from other districts like Angul, Kandhamal, Nayagarh and Subarnapur are taking admission in this college for their better future. In this respect to accommodate all classes and allied infrastructure the study growth of the college record the relentless services rendered by its committee, staff members at different stages of time.
The college has tremendous potentialities for the all round development of the students. In each semester the department conducts inter-college seminar to galvanize the academic spirit and to boost knowledge in the mind of the students for their better result.
